Ruby Wax and Richard Wiseman are the special guests speakers at ‘Psychology for All’, a public event organised by The British Psychological Society’s London and Home Counties branch taking place at the University of Westminster, London on 14th March 2009 (10am to 5pm).

Well-known psychologist Professor Richard Wiseman will be talking about the ‘psychology of luck’; Why do some people lead happy successful lives whilst others face repeated failure and sadness? Why are some people always in the right place at the right time, while others are always unlucky? Discover more and find out how The Luck Factor can change your life.

TV personality and comedienne Ruby Wax, who has recently completed a qualification in psychotherapy and is now studying neuroscience will be talking about her change of direction into a career in psychology.

With over 25 sessions on fascinating and relevant topics, including: ‘Managing the dark side of your personality and developing the bright side’, ‘She-conomics – the psychology of women and money’ and ‘Getting off the couch – exercise motivation strategies’, the event will also shed some light on just why we behave the way we do.

There’s even a chance to take part in some psychological research in special activity labs including: Find out whether you have synaesthesia: Do you experience colours when you read certain words, tastes in response to shapes, or touch sensations on your own body when you see someone else touched? Get involved in research investigating the psychology of commuting, and romantic relationships.

A new psychological test – ‘Implicitly’ – that uncovers the relationship between people’s prejudices and behavior will also be unveiled by Dr Pete Jones.

‘Psychology for All’ is organised by the London and Home Counties (LHC) Branch of The British Psychological Society. Karen Powell-Williams, Chair of the Society’s LHC Branch said: “We’re really thrilled to have Ruby Wax and Richard Wiseman as our key speakers at this event. Many people are interested to find out more about human behaviour and this event is a good introduction to a very broad range of topics.

“We’ve called it ‘Psychology for All’ because there genuinely is something for everyone -from A- level psychology students, to members of the public who are just interested in finding out more about what makes people tick”.

Tickets, priced £20 (£15 concessions), are on sale now telephone 0208 744 1803 or email Psychology4all@bps.org.uk For more information about the event online go to http://www.bps.org.uk/psychology4all
